Roman numerals combine seven letters, largest to smallest, and add them up — with a few "subtractive" pairs where a smaller letter in front means subtract:

Subtractive pairs: IV = 4, IX = 9, XL = 40, XC = 90, CD = 400, CM = 900. So 2026 is MM (2000) + XX (20) + VI (6) = MMXXVI. Standard Roman numerals run from 1 to 3999.

Use Date → Roman numerals for the classic tattoo format: month, day and year each converted and joined with dots, like III • XIV • MMXXVI for March 14, 2026. Because a tattoo is permanent, double-check the result — and remember a leading zero (like 03) is just written as III, since Roman numerals have no zero.
Standard Roman numerals cover 1–3999 and have no symbol for zero. Clock faces often use IIII for 4; this tool reads it but flags it as non-standard.
